Drop anchor at the Merseyside Maritime Museum to discover the stories of Liverpool’s maritime might, and some of the world-changing events that helped to give the city it’s heritage.

Learn about our connection to the Titanic, Liverpool’s central role in the Battle of the Atlantic and explore a world of smuggling, tax evasion, protest and war at Seized! The Border and Customs Uncovered exhibition.

The Pier Master’s House conjures up the life of the pier master and his family, as he controlled shipping through Albert Dock.

Outside, explore the Edmund Gardner pilot clipper or take an Old Dock Tour to see the world’s first enclosed wet dock in the ‘Pool’ that gives the city its name.

When it’s time to eat, a trip up to the Maritime Dining Rooms on the fourth floor of the museum takes you to a choice of delicious lunches or an afternoon teas of delicate cakes and pastries.

Go for the food but stay for the panoramic views across Albert Dock and Liverpool’s Pier Head.

The International Slavery Museum – the first of its kind in the world – is on the third floor of the Maritime Museum.

The International Slavery Museum explores the historical and contemporary aspects of slavery through stories of bravery and rebellion amongst enslaved people.

You’ll learn about the modern legacies of the slave trade and Black achievement through interactive displays; life in West Africa; and the brutality and oppression suffered by enslaved Africans on plantations in the Americas.

The museum hosts workshops and interactive performances to bring alive the amazing stories for all ages, where you can speak to important historical figures or create your own African artworks to take home.

Before you leave, make sure you browse the unique, independent shops at the Dock…

You’ll find gifts and souvenirs to take home for friends and family, or you can relax in one of the Dockside bars, cafés and restaurants, enjoying great food, served with a side of breathtaking views.
