Explore the nautical heritage of Liverpool with tales from the Merseyside Maritime Museum.

Find out about Liverpool’s central role in the American Civil War and Battle of the Atlantic, tour a historic Liverpool pilot cutter moored in the Dock and take a trip round the adjacent Pier Master’s House.

From there you’ll be transported back to the world of the pier master who controlled traffic through the original Edwardian dock.

You’ll be amazed by the world of smuggling, tax evasion, protest and war – and some of the outrageous objects used to smuggle contraband – at Seized! The Border and Customs Uncovered.

Fun, educational and and eye-opening, Seized! is one of Liverpool’s most popular tourist attractions.

You can also organise a tour of the nearly Old Dock, which are organised by the museum. Places are free, but you must book in advance.

Dine in our Michelin recommended Maritime Dining Room on the top floor of the Museum taking in the breathtaking dual-aspect view across the waterfront.

For light bites, our Quayside café is a great destination and the Merseyside Maritime Museum Gift Shop offers a full range of maritime themed souvenirs, gifts and books.

Entry to the Merseyside Maritime Museum is FREE. The museum opens daily between 10am and 5pm, but the ships and quaysides are closed during the winter.

Contact us on our Facebook and Twitter pages, we’d love to hear from you.

PLEASE NOTE:

Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum will be closed for two days on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 November, while we carry out essential maintenance work. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
